COLONIAL TIMES: A FRANTZ FANON READING

Abstract

Colonialism can be defined as the occupation of one state by another state or society in every field and sense. The colonialist sees all sorts of savings over the people here. Hence, he wants to invade not only the land of the indigenous people, but even their imaginary world. Besides, he does not consider it risky to claim to have done it for the good of the place he occupies. While the colonial occupant changes its place and people, the people there can internalize the situation after a while. By time, the colonial people voluntarily adapt to the forced change. Frantz Fanon, who constitutes the basis of this study, examines such a psychology. Born into a middle-class black family in Fort-de-France, Fanon deals with the black and white conflict. He discusses the insults of the white man to the black one and the desire of the black man to be white. In this study, a discussion is conducted on the axis of the texts written on Fanon and Fanon's two-valued works.

Kolonyalizm, bir devletin başka bir devlet yahut toplum tarafından her alanda ve anlamda işgal edilmesi diye ifade edilebilir. Sömürgeci, burada halk üzerinde her türlü tasarruf yetkisini kendinde görmektedir. Böylece yerli halkın sadece toprağını değil, muhayyile dünyasını dahi işgal etmek istemektedir. Ve bunu işgal ettiği yerin iyiliği için yaptığını söylemekte bir beis görmemektedir. Sömürgeci işgal ettiği yeri ve halkı değiştirirken orada bulunan halk da bir süre sonra durumu içselleştirebilmektedir. Zorla kabul ettirilen değişime bir süre sonra sömürge halkı gönüllü bir şekilde uyum sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın esasını teşkil eden Frantz Fanon da böylesi bir psikolojiyi masaya yatırmaktadır. Fort-de-France’da orta sınıf bir siyah ailenin çocuğu olarak dünyaya gelen Fanon, siyah-beyaz çatışmasını ele almaktadır. Beyaz adamın siyahı aşağılaması ve siyah adamın ise beyaz olma arzusunu enine boyuna tartışmaktadır. Çalışmada, Fanon üzerine yazılan metinler ve Fanon’un iki değerli çalışması ekseninde bir tartışma yürütülmektedir.
