Modeling of Urban Growth and Simulation Models

Abstract

Urban growth is a positive increase in the elements of a city over time. Urban growth and development processes should be within a specific planning framework. Today, with the developing technology, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and simulation models are used to estimate the results of urban growth effects and to create predictions. These findings play a guiding role in planning, management, and investment studies. In this context; data obtained by Remote Sensing and GIS techniques generate input data for various simulation models, while simulation models provide future estimations based on land use/cover data for the past and current time. In this study, integration of Remote Sensing and GIS with simulation models in the modeling of complex urban systems is discussed and Von Thünen Model, Concentric Zone Theory, Central Place Theory, Sector Theory, Artificial Neural Network, Markov Chains, Cellular Automata and SLEUTH Simulation models are examined.

Özet

Kentsel büyüme bir kentin sahip olduğu unsurların zaman içerisinde pozitif anlamda artışıdır. Kentsel büyüme ve gelişim süreçleri belirli bir planlama çerçevesinde olmalıdır. Günümüzde gelişen teknolojiyle birlikte Uzaktan Algılama, Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) ve simülasyon modelleri, kentsel büyüme etkilerinin sonuçlarını görmek ve tahminler oluşturmak amacıyla kullanılmaktadır. Bu bulgular planlama, yönetim ve yatırım çalışmaları açısından yönlendirici bir rol üstlenmektedir. Bu kapsamda; Uzaktan Algılama ve CBS teknikleriyle elde edilen veriler çeşitli simülasyon modellerinin girdi verilerini oluşturmakta, simülasyon modelleri ise geçmiş ve mevcut zaman dilimine ait arazi kullanımı/örtüsü verilerini esas alarak geleceğe ait tahminlerde bulunulmasını sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada karmaşık kent sistemlerinin modellenmesinde Uzaktan Algılama ile CBS'nin simülasyon modelleriyle entegrasyonu ele alınarak simülasyon modellerinden Von Thünen Modeli, Eş Merkezli Bölgeleme Teorisi, Merkez Alan Teorisi, Sektör Teorisi, Yapay Sinir Ağları, Markov Zincirleri, Hücresel Otomat ve SLEUTH modeli incelenmiştir.
