The Effect of Multiple Choice Test That Is Supported With Decorative Picture on Test Score and Time of Completion

Çoktan Seçmeli Testlerin Dekoratif Resimlerle Desteklenmesinin Testin Puanına ve Tamamlanma Süresine Etkisi

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the impacts of decorative pictures in multiple-choice questions on the students’ academic success and their quickness (the speed of) solving questions. The sample of the study was composed of 213 students attending a private a school in Tokat. As a data collection tool, the students were asked 15 multiple-choice questions used in the placement test in previous years. These questions were asked to the control group with their original form, whereas the same questions were asked without the decorative pictures on. When the findings were analyzed, it was found that the decorative pictures added for aesthetic purposes did not play a direct role in the rate of answering the right choices and the speed of completing the test

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, çoktan seçmeli sorularda bulunan dekoratif resimlerin öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ve soru çözme hızlarına etkisini incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemi Tokat ilinde özel bir öğretim kurumunda ortaokul düzeyinde öğrenim gören 213 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak geçmiş yıllarda seviye belirleme sınavlarında sorulmuş 15 çoktan seçmeli soru kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada kontrol grubuna bu sorular ilk halleriyle yöneltilmiştir. Deney gurubuna ise aynı sorular, sorularda yer alan dekoratif resimlerden arındırılmış bir halde sunulmuştur. Elde edilen bulgular incelendiğinde genel olarak estetik nedenlerle eklenmiş olan dekoratif resimlerin çoktan seçmeli testlerde soruların doğru cevaplanma oranlarına ve testin tamamlanma hızına doğrudan etki etmediğini görülmüştür.
