Acquisition of the Concept During the Process of Teaching Academic Turkish as a Foreign Language and an Action Study for This

Akademik Türkçenin Yabancı Dil Olarak Öğretimi Süreci İçerisinde Kavram Edinimi Ve Buna Yönelik Bir Eylem Araştırması

Abstract

As a result of the researcher's own observations and later interviews with the students and teachers as well as researches in the field, it has been understood that the foreign students, coming to Turkey for higher education, cannot acquire full academic and conceptual knowledge of their field within the context of language learning and therefore they experience some problems. From this point forth, in order to determine the academic language needs of foreign students and to develop solutions, Turkish academic concept acquisition process for foreign students has been planned based on the field research and student needs. In order to test the skills planned in the process and enable the students to gain them, academic texts, course teaching plans, a list of skills / acquisition, academic concept lists and activities were developed. A twelve -week teaching process is planned for the implementation of the developed content. The implementation of the instructional package was carried out in the action research model in the context of qualitative research. During the process analysis researcher's journals identified as data collection tools, student journals, course video recordings, student activity papers are used. When the data obtained during the course of the action were subjected to the descriptive analysis and interpreted; it has been seen that the teaching material and its contents are effective, students make progress in concept acquisition and they are very satisfied with the implementation process. It has been concluded that the academic concept teaching process developed for the academic achievements of foreign students within the scope of the study is extremely useful and necessary.

Özet

Araştırmacının kendi gözlemleri, sonrasında öğrenci ve öğretmenlerle yapılan görüşmeler ve alan araştırmaları neticesinde yükseköğrenim için Türkiye’ ye gelen yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin birtakım akademik ve öğrenim alanlarına dair kavramları dil öğrenim süreci içerisinde tam olarak edinemedikleri ve bu sebeple bazı problemler yaşadıkları anlaşılmıştır. Söz konusu problem durumundan hareketle yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin akademik dil ihtiyaçlarını belirlemek ve çözüm yolları geliştirmek üzere alan araştırmalarına ve öğrenci ihtiyaçlarına dayanarak yabancı uyruklu öğrenciler için Türkçe akademik kavram edinimi süreci planlanmıştır. Süreç içerisinde verilmesi planlanan becerilerin denenmesi ve öğrencilere kazandırılması amacıyla akademik metinler, ders öğretim planları, beceriler/kazanımlar listesi, akademik kavram listeleri ve etkinlikler geliştirilmiştir. Geliştirilen içeriğin uygulanması için on iki haftalık bir öğretim süreci planlanmıştır. Öğretim paketinin uygulama süreci nitel araştırma çerçevesinde eylem araştırması modelinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Süreç çözümlemesi aşamasında; veri toplama araçları olarak belirlenen araştırmacı günlükleri, öğrenci günlükleri, ders video kayıtları, öğrenci etkinlik kâğıtları, kullanılmıştır. Eylem araştırması süresi boyunca elde edilen veriler betimsel çözümlemeye tabi tutulup yorumlandığında; oluşturulan öğretim materyali ve içeriğinin etkili olduğu, öğrencilerin kavram edinim alanında ilerleme gösterdikleri ve uygulama sürecinden son derece memnun kaldıkları görülmüştür. Araştırma kapsamında oluşturulan akademik kavram öğretim sürecinin, yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin akademik başarıları için son derece yararlı ve gerekli olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
