Mardin Artuklu University Student Profile and Expenditure Analysis

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the monthly incomes and expenses of the students attending Mardin Artuklu University and examine their contributions to the city economy. Descriptive survey model is used in this quantitative study. The population of the study is composed of 7582 students attending Mardin Artuklu University in the academic year of 2016-2017. The study sample consists of 287 students selected through random sampling from different faculties. As the data collection tool, a survey form developed by the researchers is used. Descriptive statistics and t-test are employed in the analysis of the data. The results show that students spend their money on food and accommodation the most, cultural/social activities the least and it is also found that the city (Mardin) is both liveable and economical.

Özet

Bu çalışmada Mardin Artuklu Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin aylık gelir ve harcamalarını belirlemek ve bu sayede şehir ekonomisine olan katkısını ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada nicel desenli betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evreni, 2016-2017 öğretim yılında Mardin Artuklu Üniversitesinde kayıtlı 7582 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu Mardin Artuklu Üniversitesine kayıtlı öğrenciler arasından basit random örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen 287 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Belirlenen amaçlara ulaşmak amacıyla araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen anket formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın veri analizinde betimsel istatistikler ile t-testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; en fazla harcamanın gıda ve barınmada olduğu, kültürel/sosyal etkinliklere çok fazla harcamanın olmadığı, şehrin yaşanabilir, ekonomik bir şehir olduğu görüşleri ortaya çıkmıştır.
