Expense of Technology: The Virtual Waste! Virtual Language and Reflections

Abstract

In recent times, when it comes to technology, social media comes to mind with computers, mobile phones, and the Internet. Undoubtedly, these discoveries, which provide great benefits to humanity in the 21st century, also contain some negativity within it. The most important of these is the emergence of a new language in the technological environment and deformation of the mother tongue The aim of this study is to determine the usage errors of Turkish language in Whatsapp Messenger correspondence which is used widely in the world and among young people; to develop suggestions for moving the language cons- ciousness to the virtual environment. The study is a qualitative study based on a document analysis method. A single question questionnaire was applied in order to reveal the language consciousness of high school students. The words, terms, emojis, and stereotypes of the 127 volunteer students who were determined to use Whatsapp very intensively were recorded. In the analysis of the data, 5 different classifications have been made including sound usage, word usage, sentence usage, spelling, and emoji usage. Each classifi- cation includes subcategories. However, during the classifications, the categorization created by Yaman and Erdoğan (2007:239) was also utilized. As a result of the research; Similar to other studies, it was determined that the language of writing, which was not followed by the students, was sloppy, defective and argos. As a difference; It is seen that students prefer to communicate with emojis rather than writing words, abbreviating and creating sentences in Whatsapp.

Son zamanlarda teknoloji denilince akla bilgisayarlar, cep telefonları ve beraberinde İnternet olgusuyla sosyal medya gelmektedir. Şüphesiz ki 21.yy’da insanlığa büyük faydalar sağlayan bu buluşlar, bünyesinde bazı olumsuzlukları da barındırmaktadır. Bu olumsuzluklardan en önemlisi, teknolojik ortamda yeni bir dilin doğması ve anadilin deforme edilmesidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı; tüm dünyada ve gençler arasında çok yaygın biçimde kullanılan, anlık mesajlaşma uygulaması olan Whatsapp Messenger yazışmalarındaki Türk diline dair kullanım yanlışlıklarını tespit etmek; dil bilincini sanal ortama taşıma hususunda öneriler geliştirmektir. Çalışma, doküman incelemesi yöntemine dayalı nitel bir çalışmadır. Liseli öğrencilerin dil şuurlarını ortaya koyma adına tek soruluk bir anket uygulanmıştır. Whatsapp’ı çok yoğun bir şekilde kullandıkları tespit edilen 127 gönüllü öğrencinin mesajlaşma esnasında kullandıkları kelimeleri, terimleri, emojileri ve kalıplaşmış cümleleri kayıt altına alınmıştır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde ses özelikleriyle ilgili kullanımlar, kelime kul- lanımları, cümle kullanımları, yazım ve emoji kullanımları olmak üzere 5 farklı sınıflama yapılmıştır. Her sınıflamada alt kategorilere yer verilmiştir. Sınıflamalar sırasında Yaman ve Erdoğan’ın (2007:239) oluşturduğu kategorileştirmeden de yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; örneklemde yer alan öğrencilerin Whatsapp uygulamasını kullanırken ses ve yazım kurallarına uymadıkları; yazma dilinin özensiz olduğu, hatalı ve argo kelimeler içerdiği belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca; öğrencilerin Whatsapp’da sözcük yazmak, kısaltma yapmak ve cümle kurmak yerine daha çok emojilerle iletişim sağlamayı tercih ettikleri görülmüştür.
