THE EFFECT OF POLAR SCIENCE AWARENESS SEMINARS ON PARTICIPANTS' POLAR SCIENCE AWARENESS

Abstract

In this study, with the "Polar Science Awareness Seminars" developed and carried out by the researchers, it was investigated whether there was a statistically significant change in the knowledge of the participants about polar sciences and the effect of the participants on the opinions of the polar sciences with the "Polar Sciences Awareness Seminars". In the study where the mixed method was used, the pre-test - post-test single group experimental method and the semi-structured interview method were used. Twenty-five participants selected with appropriate sampling were pre-tested, the application - "Polar Sciences Awareness Seminars" - was conducted and the post-test was applied at the end of the application. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview form, which were administered to the participants as a pre-test and a post-test via Google Forms, were used as data collection tools. The quantitative data obtained were analyzed using the t-test for dependent groups. As a result of the analysis, the arithmetic mean (X), t value and significance levels (p = 0.05) of the groups were used. Descriptive and content analysis was performed for qualitative data. As a result of the research, it was observed that there was a statistically significant change in the knowledge of the participants on polar sciences with the "Polar Science Awareness Seminars" and a positive change was observed in the participants' views on these issues with the "Polar Sciences Awareness Seminars".

Bu araştırmada araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen ve gerçekleştirilen “Kutup Bilimleri Farkındalığı Seminerleri” ile katılımcıların kutup bilimleri hakkında bilgi birikiminde istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir değişim olup olmadığı ve “Kutup Bilimleri Farkındalığı Seminerleri” ile katılımcıların kutup bilimleri hakkında görüşlerindeki etkisi araştırılmıştır. Karma yöntemin kullanıldığı araştırmada ön test - son test tek gruplu deneysel yöntem ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Uygun örnekleme ile seçilen katılımcılardan yirmi beş katılımcıya ön test uygulanmış, uygulama -“Kutup Bilimleri Farkındalığı Seminerleri”- yapılmış ve uygulama sonunda son test uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak Google Formlar aracılığıyla katılımcılara ön test ve son test olarak uygulanan bir anket ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen nicel veriler bağımlı gruplar için t- testi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda, grupların aritmetik ortalaması (X), t değeri ve anlamlılık düzeyleri (p=0,05) kullanılmıştır. Nitel veriler için betimsel ve içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda “Kutup Bilimleri Farkındalığı Seminerleri” ile katılımcıların kutup bilimleri konusunda var olan bilgi birikiminde istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir değişim olduğu ve katılımcıların bu konulardaki görüşlerinde “Kutup Bilimleri Farkındalığı Seminerleri” ile olumlu yönde bir değişim olduğu görülmüştür.
