Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to examine the garments by examining the Greek and Roman finds as an indicator of the status outside of daily use. Among the basic materials that the finds are statues, reliefs, sarcophagi, grave steles and mosaics. Himation is a Greek dress. Toga is a dress that can only be worn by Roman citizens. The form of toga is very similar to the Greek himation in the Republican Period. The toga of the Romans was called “Pallium/Himation Type of Toga” by the researchers. Himation and toga are distinguished by their form and cut. While the Greek himation had a rectangular cut, the toga of the Romans was circular. In this context, toga statues of pallium type were recorded eleven examples in Turkey. The recorded samples were evaluated as “Pallium A, B and C”. In the researches, “Pallium A” type sample could not be detected in Anatolia. Three examples were evaluated in “Pallium B” type. Five examples were evaluated in “Pallium C” type. Three sculptures were studied within the scope of non-grouped examples. The earliest form of himation and toga is quite close to each other. For this reason, between himation and toga has been examined based on the works recorded in order to give a complete distinction.
