CONCEIVABILITY OF THE PHENOMENON HONOR AS A BIOPOLITIC: AN EXAMPLE FROM ŞANLIURFA

Abstract

It is a current issue in Turkey that the victims of honour killing are mainly women. In this study, the phenomenon of honor killing is examined in the context of modernization. It is also argued that the phenomenon of honor protects its existence by adapting the modern patriarchal structures of Turkish society. These arguments are based on researches of feminist literature on woman sexuality, honor phenomenon and the interviews that were made with eighteen interviewees from middle and high socio-economic class in Şanlıurfa

Özet

Kurbanlarını büyük oranda kadınların oluşturduğu namus cinayetleri, Türkiye açısından önemini koruyan bir sorundur. Bu çalışmada namus olgusu modernleşme konusu çerçevesinde incelenmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında, namus olgusunun modern ataerkil yapının koşulları çerçevesinde içerik ve biçim olarak değiştiği ancak ortadan kalkmadığı bulunmuştur. Bu bulgular kadın cinselliğini ve namus olgusunu konu alan feminist literatürün incelenmesine ve Şanlıurfa’da orta ve üstü sosyo-ekonomik konumlara sahip on sekiz kişiyle yapılan mülakatlara dayanmaktadır
