Abstract

This article aims to analyze particularly the impact of Rousseau on Kant’s conception of education through comparing the philosophies of education of these two philosophers of Enlightenment. It is emphasized that there is a parallel between Rousseau’s principles of education in Emile naturalism, importance of experimenting, hümanizm, moderation and autonomy and Kant’s conception of education in Über Pedagogik. The main argument of the paper is that Kant was influenced by Rousseau regarding his philosophy of education but it is difficult to claim that Kant developed a totally Rousseauean conception of education. In order to prove this argument, Rousseau’s Emile, published in 1762 and Kant’s Über Pedagogik, published in 1803 will be analyzed comparatively
