Abstract

Both Ahmet Muhip Dıranas (1909-1980)- “one of the tree ‘Ahmets’ of our poetry” and an important figure of the Republican period- and Bahaettin Karakoç (1930-2018) -a significant poet of the late period- have poems dedicated to the mount Ağrı. While that of the former communicates the feelings of admiration, adoration, frustration, grief, joy, and longing emerging out of the encounter with the mount Ağrı with a total of 178 lines; that of the latter adopts a rather mystical tone throughout a total of 72 lines. Both poems are inspired by their subject matter, the mount Ağrı -also referred as “the roof of Turkey”- and in that, they both appear as paramount, impressive and lasting pieces of poetry.
