Mutagenic and Antimutagenic Effects of the Essential Oils

Abstract
Abstract Since the years, the essential oils of the plants have been commonly used for antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, carminative, spasmolytic and sedative. Recently, their mutagenic and antimutagenic activity have been found potentially useful in the prevention and therapy of several diseases, including cancer. It has been argued which mechanisms cause mutagenic and antimutagenic activity of the essential oils in the procaryotic and eucaryotic cells. In this review, the recent some works on this subject have been summarized.
Özet
Bitki uçucu yağları yıllardan beri, antimikrobiyal, antioksidan, anti-inflamatuvar, karminatif, antispazmik, simulatif olarak kullanılmaktadır. Son yıllarda uçucu yağların mutajenik ve antimutajenik aktivitesi, kanserin de dahil olduğu bir çok hastalığın tedavisinde ve önlenmesinde potansiyel kullanım alanına sahip olduğu bulunmuştur. Uçucu yağların bu aktivitesinin hangi mekanizmaların belirlediği ile ilgili çalışmalar bu derleme ile özetlenmeye çalışılmıştır
