The Expedition of Grand Amiral Djezairli Ghazi Hasan Pasha to Egypt

Abstract
Egypt, which was annexed to Ottoman territory by I. Selim (1512 – 1520) at the 16th century, wastransformed into an autonomous state by considerable preservation of its current administrative andmilitary structures after its conquest. Egypt remained in turmoil until the end of the 17th century due tothe influence struggles of the governors and the odjak aghas. In the 18th century, the central administrationactually lost control of Egypt when the Mamluks was included in this rivalry and seized power. In thisstudy, the expedition of Kaptan-ı Derya Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Paşa to Egypt in 1786 for the purpose of reestablishingthe authority of the central administration and some of the regulations that he put into practicefor this purpose will be discussed.
Özet
XVI. yüzyılda I. Selim (1512-1520) tarafından Osmanlı topraklarına katılan Mısır, fethininin ardındanmevcut idarî ve askerî yapısı önemli ölçüde muhafaza edilerek özerk bir eyalete dönüştürüldü. Mısır, XVII.yüzyılın sonlarına kadar valiler ve ocak ağalarının nüfuz mücadelelerinden dolayı karışıklıklar içerisindekaldı. XVIII. yüzyılda bu rekabete Kölemenlerin de dâhil olup iktidarı devralmalarıyla merkezî yönetimMısır’daki kontrolünü fiilen kaybetti. Bu çalışmada, merkezî yönetimin otoritesini tekrar tesis etmekamacıyla Kaptan-ı Derya Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Paşa’nın 1786’da Mısır’a yaptığı sefer ve bu münasebetleuygulamaya soktuğu bazı düzenlemeler ele alınacaktır.
