A Phonological Hierarchy in Turkish Reduplicative Words

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to answer the following two questions focusing on the first segments of two words which constitute reduplicative words;i. Whether there is a phonological hierarchy that decides the order of words in Turkish reduplicative words? ii. If it exists, what kind of structure does it have? As a conclusion, it will be indicated that there is a high possibility that the phonological hierarchy in Turkish is shaped like a triangular pyramid

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkçede ikilemeli deyimler oluşturan iki kelimenin sıralamasına karar veren ‘fonolojik hiyerarşi’ olup olmadığını ve varsa nasıl bir hiyerarşi olduğunu açıklamaktır. Bu çalışmada öncelikle fonolojik hiyerarşinin ne olduğu açıklanacak. Daha sonra ikilemeli deyimleri oluşturan iki kelimenin ilk seslerine odaklanarak nasıl bir hiyerarşinin olduğu tartışılacak. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda, Türkçedeki fonolojik hiyerarşinin doğru sıra biçiminde olmayıp, üçgen piramit biçiminde olabileceği görüşü ileri sürülecektir
