BAYKAN SEZER’S SOCIOLOGICAL PERCEPTIVE

Abstract

In this study, sociological theories and approaches of Baykan Sezer, who stamped on the history of Turkish sociology and produced answers to today’s problems with his original ideas, are discussed. When we look after Baykal Sezer’s statement regarding of both sociology and history; it can be said that Baykal Sezer’s statements are different apart from classical memorizing approaches including Western prescriptions who sociologists are looking for solutions to the problems of the society. Sezer, has carried out that the originality of the idea and its position are explained in the light of the theory of East-West conflict. Also he said that every society can take solutions to contemporary problems by taking its own cultural, historical and social conditions. From this point, the westernization initiatives and efforts that caused intense debates in the history of Turkish modernization were defined as westernization. Sezer made a commitment which Ottoman Empire’s historical heritage should be understood very well. Sezer, who gives important messages to all the people who are in charge of responsibility, especially sociologists, continues his belief and determination throughout his career that the problems of Turkey can be solved only by making peace with his history and by asking the right questions.This study is based on Baykan Sezer, an important sociologist who Turkey has been brought about, to be useful to those who want to have knowledge and ideas and to those who are looking for historical answers to today’s problems…

Özet

Bu çalışmada, Türk sosyoloji tarihine damgasını vuran ve özgün fikirleriyle günümüz sorunlarına bugün dahi cevaplar ürettiği görülen Baykan Sezer'in sosyolojik kuram ve yaklaşımları ele alınmaktadır. Baykan Sezer'in hem sosyolojiye hem de tarihe ilişkin açıklamalarına baktığımızda; toplum sorunlarına Batılı reçeteler ile hazır çözümler arayan ve bu noktada klasik ezberci yaklaşımları savunan sosyologların çok ötesinde bir çizgide bulunduğu söylenebilir. Sezer, fikri özgünlüğünü ve duruşunu, Doğu-Batı çatışması kuramından hareketle açıklamış ve her toplumun kendi kültürel, tarihsel ve toplumsal şartları nazara alınarak günümüz sorunlarına çözümler üretilebileceğini savunmuştur. Bu noktada, Türk modernleşme tarihinde yoğun tartışmalara neden olan Batılılaşma girişim ve çabalarını Batıcılaşma olarak tanımlamış ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğunun tarihi mirasının iyi anlaşılması gerektiğini ifade etmiştir. Başta sosyologlar olmak üzere, sorumluluk mevkiinde bulunan tüm kesimlere önemli mesajlar veren Sezer, Türkiye'nin sorunlarının, ancak tarihiyle barışarak ve doğru sorular sorularak çözebileceği inanç ve kararlığını tüm mesleki yaşamı boyunca sürdürmüştür.Bu çalışmanın, Türkiye'nin yetiştirmiş olduğu önemli bir sosyolog hakkında, bilgi ve fikir sahibi olmak isteyenlere ve de günümüz sorunlarına tarihi cevaplar arayanlara yararlı olması hedeflenmektedir
