Typoid and paratyphoid fever: clinical analysis of 60 cases

Abstract

An analysis of 60 patients of typhoid or paratyphoid fever is presented. The patients were divided into two groups, group I being those in the 1st week and group II those in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th week from onset. In both groups; symptoms, signs, laboratory findings and treatment results were compared. Hepatomegaly was found during the 2nd or 3rd week more of ten than in the 1st week (11 %% and 27 %, respectively). AST was raised in 59 % of cases during the 2nd and 3rd week, but during the 1st week 36 % had mid elevatiions. Forty-six of the patients were treated with ciprofloxacin. Temperature returned to normal on the average of 4.1 ± 2.07 days after the initiation of the antibiotic therapy.

Özet

Tifo ve paratifolu 60 hastanın klinik bir değerlendirilmesi sunulmuştur. Hastalar iki gruba ayrıldı. Birinci grup, hastalık başlangıcından sonra bir hafta içinde başvuran, ikinci grup ise 2, 3 ve 4. haftada gelen hastalardan oluşuyordu. İki grup hastada hastalık semptomları, fizik bulgular, laboratuvar özellikleri ve tedavi sonuçları karşılaştırıldı. Hepatomegali, 2. ve 3. haftalarda 1. haftadan daha sık oranda saptandı (sırasıyla % 11 ve % 27). Birinci haftada başvuran hastalarda % 36 oranında hafif artış gösteren AST, 2. ve 3. haftadaki hastaların % 58'inde yüksek bulundu. Hastaların 46'sı siprofloksasin ile tedavi edildi. Antibiyotik başlanmasından sonra ateşin normale dönme süresi ortalama 4.1 ± 2.07 gün olarak saptandı.
