Abstract

The activity of adenosine deaminase (ADA) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was measured in five children with tuberculous meningitis, 14 children with bacterial meningitis, six children with viral meningitis and nine children with febrile convulsions. CSFADA levels were significantly higher in children with tuberculous meningitis than in the others (p < 0.01). The sensitivity of the test for the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis was % 100 and the specificity % 96 when a cut-off value of 11.0 U/liter was used.

Özet

Tüberküloz meninjitli beş, bakteriyel meninjitli 14, viral meninjitli altı ve febril konvülziyonlu dokuz hastada beyin omurilik sıvısı (BOS)'nda adenozin deaminaz (ADA) enzim aktivitesi ölçüldü. Tüberküloz meninjitli hastaların BOS ADA aktiviteleri öteki gruplara göre anlamlı derecede yüksek bulundu (p < 0.01). 11.0 U/litre'lik bir cut-off değeri kullanıldığında testin tüberküloz meninjitin tanısında duyarlılığı % 100, özgüllüğü ise % 96 olarak saptandı.
