Abstract
HIV/AIDS, HBV and HCV infections, amongst the most serious health problems in developing countries, can be transmitted by pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of HBV, HCV, HIV and the risk factors of transmission in healthy pregnants living in a low socio-economical district. Transmission risk factors were investigated with a questionnaire in 114 pregnants attending State Village Clinic in the Demirtaş District. Blood samples from the pregnants were screened for HBsAg, anti-HCV, and anti-HIV 1+2 by ELISA. The proportion of multiple pregnancy was 75.4 % and the average age of the pregnants was 24.8 (16-40, SD:5.5). The results showed that 4 (3.5 %) of 114 pregnant women were positive for HBsAg and none positive for anti-HCV and anti-HIV. 1+2. Three of the 4 HBsAg positive pregnants of multiple pregnancy also had surgical operation, tooth extraction, blood transfusion, and HBV carrier in the family. It would be advisable to include HBsAg, anti-HCV and anti-HIV prenatal tests to prevent HIV, HBV and HCV infections in future generations.
