Abstract
Moxifloxacin is an 8-methoxy-quinolone with an excellent in vitro activity against a variety of gram-positive pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and ofloxacin against 164 strains of staphylococci isolated in hemoculture and surgical wounds specimens, using disk diffusion method. The resistance rates for moxifloxacin in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-sensitive S. aureus, methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci and methicillin-sensitive coagulase-negative staphylococci were 77.8, 2.0, 75.9% and 0.0%, respectively. There was no significant difference between moxifloxacin and other quinolones tested in terms of activity against staphylococcal strains (p>0.05).
