Sexual Function in Infertile Couples and the Role of Infertility Counselor

Abstract

Infertility is an important publichealth problem, concerningone of everysixcouples. Intheresearch on infertility, common sexual problems are revealed in different regions, countries and cultures around the world. For infertile individuals/couples, sexual dysfunction may have been a preexisting condition or may have appeared after a diagnosis of infertility. When relationship problems or sexual problems are known, the support and intervention of healthcare personnel is very important for infertile couples. The role of the infertility counselor in the prevention of sexual dysfunction includes attention to both medical treatment issues and the couple s communication issues. Communication issues, sex education and sexual problems for couples are included in support programs. In this article, infertility, sexual dysfunction in infertile couples, prevention of sexual dysfunction and the role of infertility counselor are discussed based on the literature.

İnfertilite, her altı çiftten birini ilgilendiren, önemli bir toplum sağlığı sorunudur. Dünyanın farklı bölgeleri, ülkeleri ve kültürlerinde yapılan araştırmalar infertilitede cinsel sorunların genel olarak sık rastlandığı- nı ortaya koymaktadır. İnfertil birey/çiftlerde, cinsel işlev bozukluğu önceden var olan bir durum da olabilir ya da infertilite tanısı aldıktan sonrada ortaya çıkabilir. İnfertilite, ilişkilerde bozukluk ya da cinsel problemlerle sonuçlandığı zaman, sağlık personelinin desteği ve mü- dahaleleri çok önemlidir. Cinsel işlev bozukluğunun önlenmesinde infertilite danışmanının rolü, hem tıbbi tedaviyle ilgili konuları hem de çiftlerin iletişimiyle ilgili konuları içerir. İletişim konuları, çiftlere verilen cinsel eğitim ve cinsel sorunlarla ilgili destek programlarını içerir. Bu makalede; infertilite, infertil çiftlerde cinsel işlev bozuklukları, cinsel işlev bozukluklarının önlenmesi ve infertilite danışmanının rolü literatür doğrultusunda ele alınmıştır.
