Abstract
A hundred-thirty elderly individuals, who were over 65 years old, were examined in order to determine the frequency of superficial mycotic infections. Tinea pedis, onychomycosis, intertrigo and tinea inguinalis were found at rates of 17.6 %, 13.8 %, 1.5 % and 0.7 %, respectively. As causative agents, Trichophvton rubrum and Trichophvton mentaarophvtes from dermatophytes, and Candida krusei. Candida tropicalis. Candida albicans and Trichosporon spp. from yeasts were isolated. It was concluded that the frequency of superficial mycotic infections in elderly was higher when compared with the control group.
