Abstract

Cannabis resin is among the most used illegal Cannabis products over the world. Cannabis resin prepared usually as hard tablets or blocks and can be smoked by crumbling small amounts into a tobacco containing hand-rolled cigarette. The estrogenic activity of smoke of Cannabis resin has been tested in this study. The estrogenic activity in smoke samples has been detected by using the RecombinantYeast Assay, which is the most widely used in-vitro test method to detect the estrogen-like activity in new chemicals. As well known estrogenic active chemicals have been suspected of contributing to a range of adverse health effects in humans, including reproductive and developmental disorders, learning problems, and immune system dysfunction. Several recent trends in human health may be related to endocrine disruptors in the environment: widespread occurrence of neurobehavioral dysfunction at birth and in childhood; an increasing incidence of testicular cancer in young men; an increasing incidence of congenital malformations of the male reproductive tract; the increasing incidence of breast cancer; and declining sperm counts. Bu çalışmada Kannabis reçinesinin dumanının östrojenik aktiviteye sahip olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla Dünya'da bir kimyasal maddenin östrojenik aktiviteye sahip olup olmadığının gösterilmesinde en çok kullanılan in-vitro test olan Rekombinant Maya Testi (Recombinant Yeast Assay) kullanılmıştır. Kannabis reçinesi günümüzde illegal olarak en fazla tüketilen Kannabis ürünlerindendir. Sert tabletler halinde hazırlanan Kannabis reçinesi, genelde kırılıp ufalanarak tütün ile birlikte sigara gibi içilerek tüketilmektedir. Bilindiği gibi östrojenik aktif maddelerin, üreme ve gelişim bozuklukları, öğrenme problemleri ve immun sistem bozuklukları gibi olumsuz sağlık sorunlarına sebep olduğu düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca çocuklarda davranış bozuklukları, genç erkeklerde testis kanseri sıklığının artması, erkek üreme organlarında doğuştan meydana gelen bozuklukların sıklığının artması, kadınlarda göğüs kanseri sıklığının artması ve erkeklerde sperm sayılarının azalması çevrede yaygın olarak bulunan östrojenik aktif maddelerin varlığı ile ilişkilendirilmektedir.
