Examinatıon of the Book 'My Father Cemil Meriç' in terms of the Basic Concepts of Existential Psychology

Abstract

The inspiration for books is the situations people have experienced. Books are also used as an essential tool for our understanding of the inner psychological world of man. Therefore, psychology has always existed in books as a branch of science that strives to understand the inner world of the individual. This study is the analysis of the book titled 'My Father Cemil Meriç,' which was previously published by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and, lastly published by a private publishing house in 2018 and written by Ümit Meriç. Author Ümit Meriç tells the life story of Cemil Meriç, who has an impact on himself and many intellectuals, and has made many awards in his country and won many awards with the books he wrote. In the analysis of the document, it was seen that Cemil Meriç, whose life was told in the book, had a significant place in loneliness, from the migration story of his family and from the first childhood years when his personality began to occur, along with his understanding of responsibility and freedom. This research is the study of life and death, meaninglessness and meaning, freedom-responsibility-choice, loneliness, styles of existence, anxiety, and finally, authenticity-self-actualization-selfishness, which is one of the basic concepts of Existential Psychology. As a result, 'My Father Cemil Meriç' has shown that the book is suitable for analysis in terms of Existential Psychology and that it can be as a method of life learning
