Abstract
From the mid- 15th century until the end of 17th century, Ottoman Empire has established aworldwide domination. However, by the 18th century, Ottoman Empire started to decline a ndEuropean countries began to establish dominance in the rest of the world. These developments are theresult of the industrial revaluation to a great extent and Ottoman Empire has failed to achieve anindustrialization to compete with Europe. This paper attempts to evaluate the causes of the Ottomanindustrial weakness. The main conclusion of this paper is that there are many reasons for thissituation and social factors are more important than other factors in this weakness.

15. yüzyılın ortalarından 17. yüzyılın sonlarına kadar Osmanlı İmparatorluğu dünya genelindehâkimiyet kurmuştur. Bununla birlikte, 18. Yüzyıldan i tibaren İmparatorluk çöküş sürecine girmiş veAvrupa ülkeleri dünyaya hâkimiyet kurmaya başlamıştır. Bu gelişmeler büyük ölçüde SanayiDevrimine bağlıdır ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu Avrupa ile rekabet edebilecek bir sanayileşmegerçekleştirememiştir. Bu çalışmada Osmanlı İmparatorluğunun sanayileşme anlamın da zayıfkalmasının nedenleri Doğu- Batı düzleminde ortaya koyulmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucu ise,birçok sebebi olmakla birlikte, toplumsal ve politik faktörlerin sanayileşme açısından Osmanlıİmparatorluğunun zayıf kalmasında diğer faktörlere göre önemli olduğudur.
