ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SPORTIVE SUCCESS AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCES OF THE FOOTBALL CLUBS IN BIST 100

BİST 100’DE YER ALAN FUTBOL KULÜPLERİNİN SPORTİF BAŞARILARI VE FİNANSAL PERFORMANSLARI ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİNİN ANALİZİ

Abstract

The football economy has grown continuously in the last 20 years, especially with the effect of globalization, and today the annual revenues of the European football market have reached approximately 29 billion dollars. In such a large economy, the return on investment is expected to be of the same magnitude. The factor that most affects the incomes of football clubs from their investments is sportive success. In this context, the financial reports of Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor clubs, which are in the Turkish Super League and whose shares are traded in the BIST 100 index, are examined and the financial performance indicators obtained from these reports are determined. The athletic achievements of these clubs in the same period are also calculated and expressed numerically. By applying panel data analysis, financial performance indicators and sportive success results for the period of 2009-2019 are analyzed. The aim of this analysis is to determine whether the sportive achievements of these clubs, which are considered to be the big four in Turkey and whose shares are traded in the BIST 100, create a financial return.

Özet

Futbol ekonomisi, özellikle küreselleşmenin de etkisiyle birlikte son 20 yılda sürekliolarak büyümüş ve günümüzde sadece Avrupa futbol pazarının yıllık gelirleri yaklaşık29 Milyar Dolara ulaşmıştır. Bu derece büyük bir ekonomide yapılan yatırımların geridönüşünün de aynı büyüklükte olması beklenmektedir. Futbol kulüplerinin yaptıklarıyatırımlardan elde edecekleri gelirleri en fazla etkileyen unsur ise sportif başarıdır.Bu çerçevede Türkiye Süper Lig’inde yer alan ve hisseleri BİST 100 endeksinde işlemgören Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe ve Trabzonspor kulüplerinin 2009-2019yılları arasında yayınlanmış finansal raporları incelenerek, bu raporlardan eldeedilen finansal performans göstergeleri belirlenmiştir. Bu kulüplerin aynı döneme aitsportif başarıları da hesaplanarak sayısal olarak ifade edilmiştir. Panel veri analiziuygulanarak 2009-2019 dönemine ait finansal performans göstergeleri ile sportifbaşarı sonuçları analiz edilmiştir. Bu analiz ile amaçlanan Türkiye’de dört büyüklerolarak kabul edilen ve hisseleri BİST 100’de işlem gören bu kulüplerin elde ettiklerisportif başarıların finansal açıdan bir geri dönüş yaratıp yaratmadığının tespitidir.
