The Wall Paintings of Haci Abdullah Khalifa Mosque in Tekke Village

Abstract

A period of westernization started in Turkish art with the arrival of Baroque and Rococo stylesin the second half of the 18th century, which were widely used in Europe in the 17th and 18thcenturies. The period made itself felt first in the palace and in its surroundings and then inmany parts of Anatolia. In Anatolia; especially in cities of crown princes such as Trabzon andAmasya, there are many mosques ornamented with the influence of this period. Mosque ofHaci Abdullah Khalifa is one of these mosques in the village of Tekke Köy of Yağlıdere whichis a small town in the province of Giresun. The mosque was built within the body of GulbaharHatun Waqf. Done on dry coating with hand-carving technique, decoration compositionsare depicted naturalistically and stylistically in the mosque. The wall paintings created withgeometric, architectural, and concrete ornaments such as flower bouquets rising from differentforms of vases, trees, heaven and mosque depictions are the main focus of this article.

Avrupa mimarisinde 17. ve 18. yüzyıllarda yaygın olarak uygulanan barok ve rokoko üslupla- rının 18. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren ülkemize girmesiyle sanatımızda yenileşme sürecibaşlamıştır. Bu dönem etkilerini ilk olarak saray ve çevresinde, zamanla Anadolunun pek çokyerinde kendini göstermiştir. Anadoluda özellikle Amasya ve Trabzon gibi şehzade şehirlerindebu dönem etkileriyle süslenmiş çok sayıda cami bulunmaktadır. Giresunun Yağlıdere İlçesinebağlı Tekke Köyünde yer alan ve Trabzondaki Gülbahar Hatun Vakfına bağlı olarak inşa edilenHacı Abdullah Halife Camisi de bunlardan biridir. Camide sıva üzerine kalemişi tekniği ile bazenstilize, bazen de natüralist olarak tasvir edilmiş süsleme kompozisyonları yer alır. Değişik form- lardaki vazolardan yükselen çiçek demetleri, ağaçlar, cennet ve cami tasvirleri gibi bitkisel, geo- metrik, mimari ve nesnel karakterli süslemelerden oluşan duvar resimleri bu yazının konusunuoluşturur.
