Pierre Bourdieu s Potential Contributions to The Theories of International relations

Abstract

The studies have investigated on the impact of Pierre Bourdieu on the theories of InternationalRelations (IR) are still insufficient. This article aims to analyze how Bourdieu can contributeto the discipline of International Relations. In this context, it will first cover the discussionson how Bourdieusian analysis has evaluated epistemologic and ontologic problems, it will thenadapt the main ideas and concepts of Bourdieu to the IR. The main thesis of this article isthat Bourdieusian perspectif provides convincing answers to the problems that exist within thediscipline of International Relations at the meta-theoretical level. In otherwise, it argues thatthe inter-paradigmatic complementarity is possible within the discipline and the concepts havedevelopped by Pierre Bourdieu allow to fill the gaps of the mainstreams theories.

Bu makale Pierre Bourdieunun Uluslararası İlişkiler kuramlarına etkisini değerlendirençalışmaların hala çok yetersiz olduğu düşüncesinden hareket ederek, Bourdieunun geliştirdiğidüşünce ve kavramlara odaklanmakta ve onun Uluslararası İlişkiler disiplinine ne gibi katkılargetirebileceğini tartışmaktadır. Bunun için de önce Bourdieucü analizin epistemolojik ve ontolojiksorunları nasıl değerlendirdiğini tartıştıktan sonra, onun başlıca düşünce ve kavramlarından hareketederek, bunları Uluslararası İlişkiler kuramlarına uyarlamayı hedeflemektedir. Bu makalenintemel tezi Ululararası İlişkiler disiplini içerisindeki meta-teorik anlamdaki diyalog eksikliğininBourdieucü perspektifle bir nebze olsun aşılabileceğidir. Diğer bir ifadeyle, Ululararası İlişkilerdisiplinindeki paradigmalar arasındaki bütünleyiciliğin mümkün olabileceği ve Bourdieunüngeliştirdiği kavramların ana akım kuramların yetersizliklerini ve kör noktalarını bir nebze olsunazaltabileceğini iddia edilmektedir.
