Abstract

Use of Bone Putty and Tri-Calcium Phosphate Hydroxyapatite Synthetic Material As A Bone Graft Substitute in the Treatment of Large Dentigireous Cysts of the Mandible This report summarizes the end result of a recent developed bone substitute material used to fill the large cavities of dentigerous cysts of the mandibles carrying high risk of a pathological fractures. On the basis of the clinical apperances, radiographic findings, and biopsy specimens, the lesions were diagnosed as dentigerous cysts in 9 cases. They were treated by enucleation and curettage and reconstructed by using bone putty and tri-calcium phosphate - hydroxyapatite synthetic bone graft substitute. At the follow-up periods, there were neither any evidences of recurrences of the cysts nor any problems. This synthetic material had enhanced the osteo-conduction process and promoted bone ingrowth in the defective areas and consolidations were almost perfect as detected in the x-ray films.
