Continuing dental education and orthodontics

Abstract

The aim of this study was to dete the demand for orthodontic courses by den¬tists in Turkey. The questionnaire was designed to determine the interest in both continuing dental and orthodontic education courses. Questionnaires were answered by 334 participants at a national symposium. The results showed that of those dentists responding, 63% had attended a continuing dental education course in the past. As 85% of the dentists were interested in attending a continuing orthodontic education programme, it could be concluded that there was a need for such a programme. The most popular topic was preventive orthodontic treatment, as identified by 82% of those responders who expressed an interest in orthodontics.

Özet

Bu çalışma Türkiye'de dişhekîmlerinin ortodonti programlarına istekliliğini değerlendirmek amacıyla planlandı. Sürekli dişhekimliği ve ortodonti eğitimine yönelik kurslara ilginin belirlenmesi için anket formları düzenlendi. Ulusal bir sempozyuma katılan 334 katılımcı tarafından anket formları cevaplandırıldı. Bulgular değerlendirildiğinde, anketi cevaplandıran araştırmacıların %63'nün geçmişte bir mezuniyet sonrası dişhekimliği eğitimi kursuna katıldığı bulundu. Dişhekimlerinin %85'inin mezuniyet sonrası ortodonti eğitimi programlarına katılma konusunda istekli olduklarını belirtmesi, bu tür programlara ihtiyaç olduğunu göstermektedir. Mezuniyet sonrası sürekli ortodonti eğitimi almak istediğini belirtenlerin %82'sinin tercih ettiği koruyucu ortodontik tedaviler en popüler konu olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır.
