Evaluation of conflex-$air^{TM}$ 100 UV keratoconus lenses for symptoms and complications

Conflex-$air^{TM}$ 100 UV keratokonus lenslerinin semptomlar ve komplikasyonlar yönünden araştırılması

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the symptoms and complications of UV filtered, high gas permeabl (Dk 100) Conflex-$air^{TM}$ 100 UV keratoconus lenses having aspherical posterior surface. Material and Method: This study included 51 eyes of 36 patients; 16 male and 20 female The mean age was 27.80±7.87 years (range 16-45). Conflex-Air $air^{TM}$ 100 UV lenses were applie as a first trial to 14 eyes of 8 patients, 37 eyes of the remaining 28 patients enrolled in the stud had experienced other keratoconus lenses without satisfactory comfort and relief before. Then fore these lenses were applied to the patients. The mean time was 9.42±4.04 months (range i 19) for usage of Conflex-air™ 100 UV keratoconus lenses in the study.Results: 8 of 51 eyes (15.69%) revealed symptoms such as hyperemia, burning and foreign body sensation, minimal secretion. We observed punctate epitheliopathy in 4 eyes (7.84%) as complication. So, the remaining 39 of 51 eyes (76.47%) used the lenses -succesfully, which is statistically significant in comparision to Conflex™ keratokonus lenses used before (p=0.0005). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that it is preferable to use UV filtered,high gas permeable (Dk 100) Conflex-air™ 100 UV contact lenses for the keratoconus patients who have tried other ones with discomfort by means of low incidence of complications, symptoms, promising more comfort.

Amaç: Asferik arka yüzeyli, ultraviyole filtreli ve Dk'sı 100 olan Conflex-$air^{TM}$100 UV keratokonus lenslerinin semptomlar ve komplikasyonlar yönünden araştırılması Gereç ve Yöntem: 16'sı erkek, 20'si kadın toplam 36 hastanın 51 gözü değerlendirildi. Keratokonus hastalarının yaş ortalaması 27.80±7.87 (16-45) idi. Hastalardan 8'inin 14 gözüne bu lens ilk defa takılmıştı; geriye kalan 28 hastanın 37 gözü evvelce başka keratokonus lensleri kullanmışlar ancak rahatsızlık hissettikleri için bu lenslere geçiş yapılmıştı. Hastaların Conflex-$air^{TM}$ 100 UV keratokonus lensini kullanma süreleri ortalama 9.42+4.04 (4-19) aydı. Bulgular: 51 gözün 8'inde (%15.69) kızarıklık, yanma, yabancı cisim hissi, hafif sekresyor gibi semptomlar görüldü, 4'ünde (%7.84) ise noktavi epitel defektleri şeklinde komplikasyon saptandı.Böylece 51 gözün 39'u (%76.47) başarılı olarak lenslerini kullandılar. Bu değer, dahî önce kullanılan ConflexTM keratokonus lensleriyle karşılaştırıldığında anlamlı derecede yüksek bulundu (p=0.0005). Yorum: Daha önceleri lenslerini rahat kullanamayan keratokonuslu hastaların, asferik ark; yüzeyli, Dk'sı 100 olan Conflex-air™ 100 UV kontakt lenslerini, ultraviyoleyi de absorbe etme leri nedeniyle rahat bir şekilde kullandıkları ve semptomların, komplikasyonların az olduğı saptandı.
