Abstract

Purpose : To investigate the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in infants with a birth weight of 1000 g or less and to determine the effect of supplemental oxygen therapy on the development of ROP in this group of infants.Methods : Records of approximately 1300 infants admitting to our clinic for ROP screening between November 1998 and March 2003 were reviewed. 114 babies with a birth weight of 1000g or less and a regular follow up were enrolled. Infants were divided into three groups. First group consisted of infants without ROP. second group included infants who had ROP but did not require therapy (mild ROP). and the third group included infants who had ROP which required therapy (severe ROP). These groups were evaluated regarding birth weight. gestational age and mechanical ventilation requirement.Results : Mean birth weight was 924.7g (550-1000g). Gestational age ranged between 25 to 30 weeks with a mean of 28.7 weeks. Among 114 babies. 39 (34.2%) did not have ROP. 75 (65.8%) had any ROP. of which 22 (19.3%) had therapy for threshold or rush disease. Amaç: 1000 gram ve daha düşük doğum ağırlıklı bebeklerde prematüre retinopatisi (PR) sıklığını ve destek oksijen kullanımının PR gelişimine etkisini araştırmak Gereç ve Yöntem: Kasım 1998 - Mart 2003 tarihleri arasında kliniğimizde takip edilen yaklaşık 1300 prematüre bebeğin kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelenmiştir. Doğum ağırlığı 1000 gram ve daha düşük olup. düzenli izlemleri olan 114 bebek çalışma kapsamına alınmıştır. Bebekler üç gruba ayrılmıştır. Birinci grupta PR saptanmayan bebekler. 2.grupta PR saptanan fakat tedavi gerektirmeyen bebekler (hafif PR). üçüncü grupta ise PR saptanan ve tedavi gerektiren (ağır PR) bebekler yer almış; gruplar doğum ağırlığı. gestasyonel yaş ve destek oksijen kullanımı açısından değerlendirilmiştir.
