Ultrasonic power delivery modalities during phacoemulsification surgery

Abstract
After introduction of the ultrasonic power for the removal of cataractous crystalline lens into the ophthalmic surgery by Kelman during 70's, phacoemulsification gained wide acceptance and has been the standart technic of today. The diversity of phaco machines increased with technical improvements and various methods of ultrasound delivery modalities were introduced. In this review, we tried to discuss the latest innovations in phaco machines and backgrounds of the various ultrasound delivery systems.

Katarakt cerrahisinde, ultrason gücünün nukleus fragmantasyonu için kullanılabileceği Kelman tarafından 70'li yıllarda oftalmoloji dünyasına tanıtıldıktan sonra fakoemülsifikasyon yöntemi giderek daha yaygın kullanım alanı bulmuş ve bugün standart teknik halini almıştır. Teknolojik gelişmeler eşliğinde, cihaz çeşitliliği artmış ve ultrason gücünün oküler dokulara aktarımı için farklı modaliteler gündeme gelmiştir. Bu yazıda, son yıllarda fakoemülsifikasyon cihazlarında gelişen teknolojileri ve değişik ultrason modalitelerini irdelemeye çalıştık.
