Abstract

In this experimental study, effect of acute and graded obstruction of sinus sagittalis superior (SSS) on brain parenchyma in dogs was evaluated histologically. Ten adult dogs were used. In group 1 (n=5), SSS was acutely occluded. In group 2 (n=5), SSS was gradually occluded within 4 hours by using modified Papen clamp. In both groups, dogs were sacrificed 4 hours after total occlusion of SSS. Brain specimen which were taken from frontal and parietal regions were evaluated microscopically. In the second group, the most striking feature was venous engorgement, although in the first group moderate to severe edema of the brain cortex was observed. These findings suggested that, time course of occlusion of SSS has an important role in the developing pathological process as has the location of occlusion.

Özet

Bu deneysel çalışmada, köpeklerde oluşturulan sinüs sagitalis superior (SSS)' un akut ve kademeli obstrüksüyonunda beyin parenkimindeki değişiklikler histopatolojik olarak incelendi. Her iki cinsten on adet erişkin köpek çalışmaya alındı. SSS, birinci grupta (n=5) akut, ikinci grupta (n=5) modifiye Papen klempi ile 4 saat içerisinde kademeli olarak kapatıldı. Her iki gruptaki köpekler total obstrüksüyonu takiben 4. saatte sakrifiye edilerek frontal ve parietal bölgelerin beyin dokusu örnekleri mikroskopik olarak incelendi. Kademeli artan obstrüksüyon grubunda venöz dolgunluk ve minimal ödem bulgularına karşılık akut obstrüksüyon yapılanlarda orta ve ağır derecede periselüler ödem gözlendi. Bu bulgular sinüs tıkanmalarında lokalizasyonun yanısıra tıkanmanın ortaya çıkma süresinin de oluşacak patolojinin gelişiminde önemli rol oynadığını düşündürmektedir.
