Urogenital Dysfunction and Treatment in Patients with Spinal Injury

Abstract

Spinal cord injuries continue to be an important health problem, especially in developed societies. They require a multidisciplinary approach from the time of injury to the end of the process. Despite the improvements in diagnosis and treatment possibilities, the patient faces significant and irreversible late complications of injury. Urinary and sexual problems are often encountered in these patients, and seriously impair the quality of life depending on the location and severity of the lesion. Understanding the neuroanatomy and physiopathology of the urogenital system allows us to offer patients the most appropriate treatment option. Periodic monitoring of the urinary system, as well as the other organs and systems, is necessary for the early diagnosis and treatment of complications. In this review, urinary and sexual dysfunction and treatment alternatives are reviewed in patients with spinal cord injury

Özet

Omurilik yaralanmaları özellikle gelişmiş toplumlarda önemli bir sağlık sorunu olmaya devam etmektedir. Yaralanma anındansürecin sonuna kadar multidisipliner yaklaşım gerektirir. Tanı ve tedavi olanaklarındaki gelişmelere rağmen önemli oranda hastayaralanmanın geri dönüşümsüz geç komplikasyonlarıyla yüzleşmektedir. Omurilik yaralanmalı hastalarda lezyonun yeri ve şiddetinebağlı olarak hayat kalitesini ciddi oranda bozan üriner ve cinsel sorunlarla karşılaşılmaktadır. Ürogenital sistemin nöroanatomisinin vefizyopatolojisinin anlaşılması hastalara en uygun tedavi seçeneğini sunmamıza olanak sağlamaktadır. Diğer organ ve sistemler gibiüriner sistemin periyodik takibi komplikasyonların erken tanısı ve tedavisi için akılda tutulmalıdır. Bu derlemede omurilik yaralanmalıhastalarda üriner ve cinsel fonksiyon bozukluğu ve tedavi alternatifleri gözden geçirilmiştir.
