Anatomy of the Orbit and Transorbital Approaches

Abstract

The orbit has always attracted the attention of neurosurgeons by its cone shaped bony structure. Both the narrow volume and thecomplex anatomical structure make surgical approaches to this fine anatomical region quite difficult. The orbit has always been an area of interest not only in neurosurgery, but also in ophthalmology and plastic surgery. Therefore, many anatomical, radiologicaland clinical studies have been performed on the orbit. The aim of this review is to summarize the anatomy of the orbit, to revisit theimportant anatomical structures and to present the surgical approaches to the lesions developing in and around the orbit.

Orbita koni şeklindeki kemik yapısı ile her zaman beyin ve sinir cerrahlarının ilgisini çekmiştir. Gerek dar hacmi gerekse de karmaşık ve hassas anatomik yapısı bu bölgeye uygulanacak olan cerrahi yaklaşımları oldukça zor hâle getirmektedir. Bu bölge sadece beyin ve sinir cerrahisinin değil aynı zamanda oftalmoloji ve plastik ve rekonstrüktif cerrahi branşlarının da daima ilgi alanı olmuştur. Bu nedenle orbita ve orbitaya cerrahi yaklaşım şekilleri üzerine pek çok anatomik, radyolojik ve klinik çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Bu derlememizin amacı, orbitanın anatomisi üzerine kısa ve özet bilgi vermek, önemli anatomik yapıları hatırlatmak ve orbita içinde ve çevresinde gelişen tümörlere ve diğer lezyonlara cerrahi yaklaşım tarzlarını sunmaktır.
