Rehabilitation of the Patient with Neurological Injury After Spinal Trauma

Abstract

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe neurological disorder that suddenly and dramatically changes the life of the patient and the family. Following the injury, many neurological and medical problems occur, and almost all body functions of the patient are affected. In line with the developments in medicine in recent years, the survival rates and lifespan of patients with SCI have increased gradually. The rehabilitation of a person with SCI includes fighting the complications while trying to stabilize the medical condition of the patient. By informing the patient and family about this process, it may be possible to have them adapt to daily life in the best way. Rehabilitation is a life-long process that is implemented with a multidisciplinary team approach and started in the hospital. Patients who are discharged after achieving appropriate targets with rehabilitation should be checked regularly.

Omurilik yaralanması, hastanın ve ailesinin yaşamını aniden ve dramatik bir şekilde değiştiren ağır bir nörolojik tablodur. Yaralanmadansonra birçok nörolojik ve tıbbi sorun ortaya çıkar, hastanın neredeyse tüm vücut fonksiyonları etkilenir. Son yıllarda tıptaki gelişmelereparalel olarak OY’li hastaların hayatta kalma oranı ve yaşam süreleri giderek artmıştır. Spinal travma sonrası rehabilitasyonda biryandan hastanın tıbbi durumu stabilize edilmeye çalışılırken, diğer yandan komplikasyonlar ile mücadele edilir. Hasta ve ailesi busüreç ile ilgili bilgilendirilerek, günlük yaşama en iyi şekilde adapte edilmeye çalışılır. Rehabilitasyon multidisipliner ekip anlayışıiçinde uygulanan, hastanede başlayan ve ömür boyu süren bir süreçtir. Rehabilitasyon ile uygun hedeflere ulaşılarak taburcu edilenhastalar düzenli kontrol edilmelidir.
