Cerebellar Astrocytomas

Abstract

Astrocytomas are the most common tumors among glial tumors. They can be located anywhere in the brain as well as in the cerebellum. Although grade 1 (pilocytic astrocytoma) is the most common type, other types of astrocytomas can also be seen in the cerebellum. Pilocytic astrocytomas are one of the most common posterior fossa tumors in childhood and generally stand out with cystic and solid components. Magnetic resonance imaging is the gold standard for the diagnosis of cerebellar astrocytomas. Treatment is primarily surgery. Although total resection is the main aim of treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be considered in subtotal and partial resections. In the future, more satisfactory results can be obtained in astrocytomas with personalized targeted treatments.

Özet

Astrositomlar glial tümörler içerisinde en sık görülen tümör grubudur. Beynin her yerinde olabildiği gibi serebelluma da yerleşebilir.En sık grade 1 (pilositik astrositom) görülmekle birlikte diğer astrositom tipleri de görülebilir. Pilositik astrositomlar çocukluk çağındaen sık görülen posterior fossa tümörlerinden birisidir ve genellikle kistik ve solid komponenti ile ön plana çıkar. Manyetik rezonansgörüntüleme tanıda altın standarttır. Tedavi ise öncelikle cerrahidir. Total rezeksiyon tedavide temel hedef olmakla birlikte subtotal veparsiyel rezeksiyonlarda radyoterapi ve kemoterapi de göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır. Gelecekte kişiye özel hedeflenmiş tedaviler ileastrositomlarda daha yüz güldürücü sonuçlar elde edilebilecektir.
