Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of Rubella and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in pregnant women and to investigate their relationship with age groups. Method: Rubella, CMV antibodies and CMV avidity tests performed by the enzyme-linked fluorescent assay method in sera of pregnant women under 20th gestational week at a University Hospital Central Microbiology Laboratory between January 2016 and January 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women was 28.2±5.6 years. In this three-year period seroprevalence test results related to 4236 rubella IgM, 720 rubella IgG, 3793 CMV IgM and 148 CMV IgG antibodies were examined. Rubella IgM seropositivity was detected in 21 (0.49%) and borderline results in 30 (0.7%) cases. Rubella IgG seropositivity was detected in 692 (96.1%) and borderline results in 24 (3.3%) cases. CMV IgM seropositivity was detected in 10 (0.2%) and borderline results in 20 (0.52%) cases. CMV IgG seropositivity was detected in all (n=148) patients. Rubella IgG levels decreased and CMV IgG levels increased with age. Conclusion: The seropositivity rate of rubella was found as 96.1% in pregnant women and the seroprevalence of CMV as 100%. Due to high seroprevalence, routine screening for both seems unnecessary. But the decrease in Rubella IgG levels with age should be taken into consideration in especially advanced age pregnancies. In addition, it is thought that rubella will gain importance in the following years due to the anti-vaccination tendency which has increased in the society in recent years. Seropositivity for CMV found in all patients scanned in the study indicates a low socio-economic level.
Yüksek seroprevalans nedeniyle her ikisi içinde rutin tarama gereksiz gibigörünmektedir. Ancak rubella açısından, özellikle ileri yaş gebeliklerde, yaşla birlikte rubella IgGdüzeyindeki düşme dikkate alınmalıdır. Ayrıca son yıllarda toplumda artma eğilimi gösteren aşıkarşıtlığı nedeniyle, ilerleyen yıllarda konjenital rubella açısından gebe takibinin önem kazanacağı düşünülmektedir. Çalışmada, CMV açısından taranan tüm hastaların seropozitif bulunmasıdüşük sosyoekonomik düzeyi işaret etmektedir.
