The Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Era of Technology: The Case of Fairy Tales

Abstract

The technological means generated through civilization today provides people with various communication means and mass media and rich entertainment opportunities for both children and adults. As a result of this, our traditional narrative types and fairy tales do not get much attention and the story-tellers cannot find listeners as much as they used to in the old days. Today it is noted that there is a decrease in the number of the story tellers and the tradition of story telling is loosing its importance. In this study having mentioned importance of fairy tales in social life, the necessity of revatalising them will be focused on. In light of this, some suggestions are put forward in protecting and keeping them alive. In this way, it is assumed that this cultural heritage will be transferred to future generations.

Özet

Günümüzde modern çağın beraberinde getirdiği teknolojik gelişmeler, çeşitli iletişim araçları ve buna bağlı olarak görsel ve işitsel medya, gerek çocuklara gerekse yetişkinlere çok yönlü eğlence biçimleri sunmaktadır. Bunun sonucu olarak geleneksel anlatı türlerine dolayısıyla da masala pek ilgi gösterilmemekte, masal ustaları eski dinleyici kitlesini bulamamaktadır. Bugün iyi masal anlatan kişilerin sayısının da azaldığı, masal anlatma geleneğinin eskiye oranla zayıfladığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada masalın sosyal yaşamdaki yeri ve önemine değinildikten sonra bu türün, günümüzde tekrar eski canlılığına kavuşturulmasının gerekliliği üzerinde durulmuştur. Buna bağlı olarak masalların ve masal anlatma geleneğinin korunup yaşatılması, bunların gelecek kuşaklara aktarılması yönünde önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
