The use df proverbs in teaching grammar

Abstract

The aim of this study is to show the usability of the proverbs as sample text in teaching grammar. The proverbs reflecting the cultural identity of any nation were used in the language teaching for a long time. The principles of the grammar are composed of three main parts. These are as follows: phonetics, texture and sentence structure. In this study, the sample proverbs related to these three qualities have been determined through the scan method. It has been observed that there are so many samples which show the principles regarding those parts of the grammar. As a result, it has been concluded from the study that the proverbs can be used as sample text in the teaching of the principles of the grammar. According to this result, if the principles of the grammar were learnt through the proverbs, active learning would be materialized. On the other hand, the proverbs make the narration more compendious. They display the natural usage of the language. Their usage in the teaching of the grammar may also draw the attention of the students. Due to the fact that they are learnt easily, the principles of the grammar can be acquired without difficulty. Finally, the learning of the grammar through the proverbs enables the students to become familiar with their own cultural values.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, atasözlerinin dil bilgisi öğretiminde örnek metin olarak kullanılabilirliğini göstermektir. Bir milletinin kültürel kimliğini yansıtan atasözleri çok eskiden beri dil öğretiminde kullanılmıştır. Dil bilgisinin kuralları ses bilgisi, yapı bilgisi ve cümle bilgisi olarak üç ana bölümden oluşur. Araştırmada bu-üç alanla ilgili örnek atasözleri tarama yöntemiyle belirlenmiştir. Atasözlerinde dil bilgisinin bu alanlarıyla ilgili kuralları yansıtan örneklerin çok olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bundan hareketle dil bilgisi kurallarının öğretiminde atasözlerinin örnek metin olarak kullanılabilirliği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu sonuca göre dil bilgisi kuralları atasözlerinden hareketle öğretilirse aktif öğrenme gerçekleşir. Atasözleri, kısa, özlü, etkileyici ve sanatlı sözlerdir. Dil bilgisi öğretiminde bu metinlerin kullanılması öğrencilerin ilgisini çeker. Kolay öğrenildikleri için atasözlerinden hareketle öğretilen dil bilgisi kuralları da kolay öğrenilebilir ve kalıcı olur. Atasözleri dil bilgisinin kurallarıyla ilgili bol örnek imkânı sunar. Ayrıca dilin doğal kullanımını gösterir.Atasözlerinden hareketle dil bilgisi öğretmek öğrencilere kendi kültür değerlerini farkına varmadan kendi kendilerine öğrenme imkânı verir. Dil bilgisi öğretiminde atasözlerine örnek metin olarak yer verilmeli bu sözlerden hareketle dil bilgisi öğretimi gerçekleştirilmelidir. Böylece hem dilin kuralları hem de o dilin kültür değerleri öğretilmiş olur.
