Ahmet Mithat Efendi s Method of Writing Novel

Abstract

Modern story and novel in Turkish literature cameto be known in the second half of 19th century. Many innovations haveentered into our literature thanks to the examples of these two writing styles both in the form of translations and original written works. The innovations in question have become available for the readers through the newwriting/telling methods included in the types of modern story and novel.However, it is a known fact that every writer has a different style of writing. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, one of the early story and novel writers, alsohad his own perception of writing in the early period of the Turkish novelwriting. This perception is a method which emerged as a combination ofsome methods obtained partly from our classical literature and partly fromwestern novel. For this reason, the methods that Ahmet Mithat Efendiused in his novels have been dealt with in the context of the art of the novel.

Özet

Modern hikâye ve roman Türk edebiyatında XIX. yüzyılınikinci yarısında tanınmaya başlanmıştır. Bu iki türün tercüme ve telif örnekleri aracılığıyla edebiyatımıza birçok yenilik girmiştir. Söz konusu yenilikler modern hikâye ve roman türlerinin barındırdığı yeni yazma/anlatma yöntemleri aracılığıyla okurların karşısına çıkarılmıştır. Ancak her yazarın üslubunun farklı olduğu da bilinen bir gerçektir. İlk telifhikâye ve roman yazarlarımızdan biri olan Ahmet Mithat Efendinin deerken dönem Türk romancılığında, benimsediği, kendine has bir yazmaanlayışı söz konusudur. Bu anlayış hem klasik edebiyatımızdan gelenhem de Batılı romandan alınan bazı yöntemlerle harmanlanmış bir yöntemdir. O sebeple bu makalede Ahmet Mithat Efendinin romanlarını yazarken kullandığı yöntemler roman sanatı bağlamında ele alınmıştır.
