Abstract
The practice of “yağ kokutma” (burn oil, butter, margarine on the like) has been going on among the Turkish Sunnis and Bektashis/Alevîs for thousands year. Turks, to gain the pleasure of God (of skies) have prepared foods like pişi/lokma and helva on kandil and arefe days. Alevîs/Bektashis call this ceremony “sacrifice without blood. ” These foods are given out to the neighbours. In this article the reflections of this tradition have been examined.
