“THE IDIOMS IN THE GHAZALS OF RÛHÎ OF BAGHDAD (D. 1014/1605-1606)”

Abstract

Idioms are important factors that reflect the substantiality of a language, as they carry national features and demonstrate the verbal abilities of the said nation. Many concepts, figurative sayings, fantasies, similes and language craftsmanship can be found among the limited structure of an idiom. Thus, the person has the power to say more with less. Several studies have reported the richness of the Turkish language, especially regarding idioms and sayings. The poets of the Divan literature have extensively used this capacity of the Turkish language, but also added fragments of daily life into their poems. As artistic phraseology is an indispensable part of the Divan literature, the different layers of a word can find meaning in the verses of a poem. The idioms, which reflect the substantiality of words, are also essential for the Divan poem. The Divan poets have strengthened the meanings of their verses and assigned them a polysemous nature. Rûhî of Baghdad is one of the poets of the 16th century literature, who was able to masterfully utilize the Turkish language. This article aims to determine the nature and frequency of idioms in the ghazals of Rûhî of Baghdad. The ghazals and verses with idioms were ordered and given together with the contextual meaning. Also, the article explores poet's way of using these idioms, choices and the contribution of the idioms to the poem. In this way, it was aimed to establish the importance of idioms for the works of Rûhî of Baghdad, as well as the Turkish poetics.

Millî özellik taşımaları ve ait olduğu milletin söz gücünü göstermesi bakımındandeyimler, dilin zenginliğini yansıtan önemli unsurlardandır. Birçok kavram, mecazlısöyleyişler, ince hayaller, benzetmeler ve söz ustalıkları, bir deyimin sınırlı yapısıiçinde kendine yer bulur. Böylece deyimi kullanan kişi az sözle çok anlam ifade etmegücü kazanır. Türk dilinin mecazlı söyleyiş gücüne sahip, deyimler bakımından dazengin bir dil olduğu bugüne kadar yapılan birçok çalışmayla ortaya konulmuştur.Divan şairleri de eserlerinde zengin bir dil kullanmaya özen göstermişler, sanatlı söyleyişinyanında günlük hayatı yansıtmayı da elden bırakmamışlardır. Sanatlısöyleyişin divan şiirinin ayrılmaz bir parçası oluşu şairlere, kelimelerin farklı anlamkatmanlarını manzumelerinde sergileme yolunu açmıştır. Böylece kelimelerin anlamzenginliğini yansıtan deyimler, divan şiirinin ayrılmaz bir parçası olmuştur. Divanşairleri deyimlerin kullanımıyla hem söyleyişlerine güç kazandırmışlar hem de azsözle çok anlam ifade etme imkânına sahip olmuşlardır. 16. yy.ın önemli şairlerindenolan Bağdatlı Rûhî de Türkçenin söz gücünü deyimler vasıtasıyla ustalıkla işlemeyibaşarmış biridir. Bu makalede, Bağdatlı Rûhî’nin gazellerinde kullanılan deyimlerve deyimlerin kullanım sıklığı tespit edilmiştir. Deyimlerin geçtiği gazel ve beyitnumaraları sıralanmış, beyitlerde kullanıldıkları anlamları verilmiştir. Şairindeyimleri kullanma usûlü, tercihleri ve şiirine kattıkları incelenmiştir. Buradanhareketle deyimlerin hem Bağdatlı Rûhî’nin gazellerindeki hem de Türk şiirindekiyeri ve önemi ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
