Abstract
Several acute phase reactant levels have been proposed as possible markers to monitor disease activity and res¬ponse to the treatment in patients with tuberculosis. In order to evaluate the effect of anti-tuberculous che¬motherapy on acute phase reactants, we measured the serum levels such of acute phase reactants as transfer¬rin, albumin, complement C3 and C4 and erytrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in 30 patients with active pul¬monary tuberculosis before and after anti-tuberculous chemotherapy. Although all acute phase reactant levels were within normal limits, before and after the treatment their levels changed during treatment. While there we¬re an increase in the concentrations of transferrin (190,6± 55,9 versus 222,8 ± 76,3 mg/dl) (p
