Abstract

Antithyroid drugs propylthiouracil and methimazole are medical agents which are frequently used in hyperthyroidism treatment. One of the most important side effect of them is agranulocytosis in which the drug treatment must be stopped. Lithium carbonate is an alternative treatment which is used either in agranulocytosis or in hyperthyroidism. Thus using of lithium in a case of agranulocytosis related propylthiouracil is discussed.

Özet

Antitiroid ilaçlar olan propiltiourasil ve metimazol hipertiroidi tedavisinde sıklıkla kullanılan tedavi ajanlarıdır. En önemli yan etkilerinden biri agranülositoz olup ilaç tedavisinin kesilmesi gerekir. Hem agranülositoz tedavisinde hem de hipertiroidi tedavisinde lityum karbonat alternatif bir tedavi seçeneği sağlar. Bu nedenle propiltiourasil tedavisine bağlı agranülositoz gelişen bu olgu tartışılmıştır.
