Current Topics in Social Studies Textbooks

Abstract

The aim of this research is to ascertain the present level of current topics in social studies textbooks. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The sample of the study includes 11 social studies textbooks for 4, 5, 6, and 7. grade classes which have been used in elementary school through 2006-2007 education-teaching years. For the study, social studies textbooks are examined and determined to what extend the degree current events, current affairs and current persons exist in these textbooks. Finally, it is found that current events, current affairs and current persons in social studies textbooks reflected at considerable level.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler ders kitaplarında güncel konuların bulunma düzeyini tespit etmektir. Araştırmada içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Örneklemi 4, 5, 6 ve 7. sınıflar için 2006-2007 eğitim öğretim yılında ilköğretim okullarında kullanılmış olan 11 tane sosyal bilgiler ders kitabı oluşturmaktadır. Sosyal bilgiler ders kitapları incelenerek içlerinde güncel olaylara, güncel sorunlara ve güncel kişilere ne ölçüde yer verildiği tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, sosyal bilgiler ders kitaplarında çeşitli güncel olaylara, güncel sorunlara ve güncel kişilere önemli ölçüde yer verildiği saptanmıştır.
