Abstract
Rectal contents obtained from 16 Laudakia stellio stelio (Spiny-lizard) (7oo+9oo) from the vicinity of Izmir, were investigated for the presence of protozoa. Two species, a flagellate, Proteromonas uromastixi and a ciliate, Nyctotherus hardwickii were detected. In the 16 spiny-lizard specimens investigated, the flagellate, Proteromonas urojnastixi had the high incidence of 93.75%. This value was lower in Nyctotherus hardwickii with a frequency of 31,25%. Since all specimens surveyed were in good health, the protozoa which are considered to be pathogens by some investigators had no pathogenic effects on their hosts.
