Prevalence of ticks (Ixodidae) on some lizards and turtles in the Marmara region

Abstract

This study was carried out between 1996 and 1999 (from March to June) in the Marmara Region. A total of 288 lizards belonging to 7 species and 32 turtles belonging to 2 species were examined for tick infestations. Of these, 5.2% of the lizards and 40.6% of the turtles were found to be infested. Only adults of Hyalomma aegyptium were detected on turtles. On the other hand, adults of Haemaphysalis parva as well as larvae and nymphs of Haemaphysalis and Ixodes were found on lizards. Only the nymphs of Hyalomma were observed on Laudakia stellio.

Özet

Bu çalışma Marmara Bölgesi'nde 1996-1999 yılları arasında (Mart-Haziran) yürütülmüştür. Bu süre içerisinde 7 ayrı türden 288 kertenkele ve 2 ayrı türden 32 kaplumbağa kene enfestasyonu bakımından muayene edilmişlerdir. Kertenkelelerden %5.2'sinde, kaplumbağalardan ise %40.6'sında kene bulunmuştur. Kaplumbağalarda olgun Hyalomma aegyptium tek tür olarak saptanmıştır. Kertenkelelerde Haemaphysalis parva'nın olgunları ile Haemaphysalis ve Ixodes cinsi kenelerin larva ve nimfleri tespit edilmiştir. Hyalomma cinsi kenelerin sadece nimfleri kertenkele türü olan Laudakia stellio'larda görülmüştür.
