Haptoglobin, serum amyloid-A and ceruloplasmin concentrations in goats with mixed helminth infection

Abstract

In this study, the concentrations of haptoglobin, serum amyloid A and ceruloplasmin were measured in goats with mixed gastrointestinal infections of nematodes and liver trematodes. Twelve patients who were diagnosed as having mixed helminth infection after detection of Trichuris spp., Trichostrongylidae spp. and Fasciola spp. and six healthy controls participated in the study. The concentrations of the acute phase proteins (haptoglobin p≤0.001; serum amyloid-A p≤0.05) were significantly higher in the goats with mixed gastrointestinal infection with nematodes and liver trematodes than the control goats. As a result of this study, we determined that the concentrations of haptoglobin and serum amyloid-A increased in goats with mixed helminth infection but further studies of the clinical importance of those increases in relation to prognosis and monitoring therapy of helminthic infections in goats should be made.

Bu çalışmada miks helmint enfeksiyonlu keçilerde serum haptoglobin, serum amiloid-A ve seruloplazmin konsantrasyonlarının belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Araştırmada dışkı mikroskobisinde mide-bağırsak nematodları (Trichuris spp. ve Trichostrongylidae spp.) ve karaciğer trematodları (Fasciola spp.) saptanan 12 keçi ile hiçbir paraziter enfeksiyonu ve diğer hastalıkları bulunmayan 6 keçiden oluşturulan toplam 18 hayvan kullanılmıştır. Miks helmint enfeksiyonlu keçilerde, haptoglobin (p≤0, 001) ve serum amiloid-A (p≤0, 05) konsantrasyonlarının kontrol grubuna göre önemli düzeylerde yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, miks helmint enfeksiyonlu keçilerde haptoglobin ve serum amiloid-A konsantrasyonlarının arttığı belirlenmiş ve bu artışın prognoz ve sağaltım etkinliğinin kontrolü açısından klinik öneminin belirlenmesi için detaylı çalışmalara gereksinim olduğu kanısına varılmıştır.
