General overview of camel parasites and the situation in Turkey

Abstract

The aim of this review is overview the main protozoan, arthropoda and helminthic parasites seen in camels and to evaluate the publications related to camel parasites in Turkey. In different parts of the world, trichostrongylose, mange, nasal myiasis and trypanosomiasis are the most common parasitic diseases found in camels. Hydatic cyst larval stage of E. granulosus is important both economically and in terms of public health. It is also emphasized that the records concerning parasites of the Turkish camel population, which is decreasing signifi cantly, are extremely limited.

Özet

Bu derleme yayının amacı develerde bulunan başlıca protozoon, artropod ve helmint parazitleri gözden geçirmek, Türkiye’de deve parazitleri ile ilgili yayınları değerlendirmektir. Dünyanın farklı bölgelerinde trichostrongylose, uyuz, burun myiasisi ve trypanosomiasis develerde en çok rastlanan paraziter hastalıklardır. Echinococcus granulosus’un larvası olan kist hidatik de develerde ekonomik açıdan ve halk sağlığı açısından önem taşımaktadır. Türkiye’de popülasyonu belirgin bir şekilde azalan develerin parazitleri ile ilgili kayıtların da çok sınırlı olduğu vurgulanmıştır.
